YOU ARE THE ONE LIMITING YOURSELF

YOU ARE THE ONE LIMITING YOURSELF

One day not long ago the employees of a large company returned from their lunch break and were greeted with a sign on the front door. The sign said: "Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym."

At first everyone was sad to hear that one of their colleagues had died, but after a while they started getting curious about who this person might be.
The excitement grew as the employees arrived at the gym to pay their last respects. Everyone wondered: "Who is this person who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he or she is no longer here!"

One by one the employees got closer to the coffin and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood over the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it
could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said: "There is only one person who is capable of setting limits to your growth: it is YOU.
************

In life, only one person apart from GOD decides what you get out of it and that person is YOU. As we are in this examination period, you alone decide what you will get out of it. Only you can hinder yourself from getting those 'As' that you have set your mind to achieve. Your destiny is in your hands. Do not play with it.

WAITING TO GET A JOB ? ? ? ? ? ?

WAITING TO GET A JOB: WHAT IF YOU MIGHT NEVER GET ANY?
Written by  Etuk AnietieLuck is a myth...
…and he stood there, with both hands on his head, shocked by the fact that his name was not included in the list of candidates selected for employment. Two years after NYSC, 7 interviews, 3 aptitude tests, yet no job. His pain was evident.
He couldn’t enter the house, he just stood there; family will screw him, his fiancée might leave him, and worst of it, this experience might affect his religious beliefs.
This happened four months ago.
But today, this same young man determines how much he earns. As I look at him now, I am forced to share with you why luck is a myth.
When this young man first walked into my office four months ago, he was so devastated and broke that he had to trek from Garrison to Trans Amadi so I can borrow him N2, 000. After hearing his sad experience, I just told him it’s possible to start a business with what you have, irrespective of where you are. He said, “Bros, leave that talk.” I then shared this secret with him.
  1. What is it that many people use repeatedly/everyday/almost always?
I told him to look around and take note of things that many people do or use repeatedly. This is because, if one person uses that product for N10, fifty people will use it for N500. The second idea is, if these people pay you N500 today, another N500 tomorrow, which means in a month of 30 days you will have N15, 000.
His list looked like this;
People eat 3 times a day                                =   Restaurant, Food business
Guys cut their hair almost weekly                  =   Barbing saloon
People wash their cloths at least weekly       =   Laundry business
People recharge their phones daily               =   Recharge card business
People drink water daily                                 =   Pure water business
People wear cloths daily                                 =   Boutique business
People use confectioneries daily                    =   Supermarket/Store business

He looked at me and said, “I’m a graduate, I can’t do this type of THING”. I was angry, I told him, “Then carry your CV and continue walking towards Artillery junction, you will see companies that need jobless graduates for employment, you…” He looked at me wearingly, as if sensing what I would say next, and said, “Ok, what next?”
2 Select one that you can do on your own/maybe you have the idea/interest.
This young man handles cloths very well. His shirts are neatly washed, appropriately starched and carefully ironed. Interestingly, when I asked him to select one from the list he said laundry. His question came the second time, “but I don’t have money to start.”

  1. Start with what you have, don’t borrow.
I told him if you look very well, you’ll see that you can start where you are with what you have. For example, to start a laundry business you will need a steam iron, electricity, bucket, water, soap/detergent, hanger, starch, and the washer man. “Do you have a steam iron?” I asked, he said yes. “Bathing bucket?”He said yes. “Washer man?” he smiled. “Electricity, NEPA?” he frowned. The truth is that you have what is needed; the only visible challenge is how to get customers.

  1. Start with people you know.
He attends one of the big churches in Port Harcourt. I told him to meet some of the members, tell them what you can do, and offer to give them a FREE sample, if they are OK, they can start paying (It’s called Market Entry Strategy). Also, volunteer to wash your Pastor’s cloths FREE (It’s called Spiritual Entry Strategy). This way you will not spend any money on publicity or advert. One day, something will move the Pastor to tell the members about you, if they trust the Pastor, they will trust your service.

  1. Look for little ways to be different/better/faster/cheaper.
I told him for a start do only male shirts. Concentrate on this, let people come to know you as the best male-shirts-washer-man. Also charge them lower price compared to the normal rate. Always tell them you will return their cloths in five days time, but endeavour to deliver on the fourth day.

  1. Stop thinking and planning, START!!! Go out and start.
Until you do, nothing will happen, so start! I gave him 5 of my shirts to wash, paid him upfront, and asked him when can I get my cloths, he said, “in five days time.” I said well. I encouraged him to talk to other people, especially friends and family. People will laugh, many will turn you down, but the few that listen, treat them well, if they are satisfied, they will help you grow.

With these few suggestions, he started with no money. In four months he rented a place, bought a generator, and yesterday, he just called me to show his new washing machine. This morning, he called to say I should develop a business plan for him because he’s thinking of expanding his market.

What are you waiting for? If the job does not come, create one. Don’t wait until the opportunity is right, instead you write your opportunity. Yes, not everyone is lucky; in fact there is nothing as luck. Let me tell you the truth, everyone has equal opportunity. And you know what? Luck is actually opportunity utilized.

THE MTN STORY

MTN came to Nigeria at a time when nobody wanted to invest in Nigeria, at a time when Nigerians did

not have phones. Even Zenith Bank refused to loan MTN cash to operate, UBA rejected MTN’s offer but

today see the difference.

At least we all know the story of the only civilian unelected President in Nigeria - Goodluck Jonathan.

We know how the people said he was not going to be President; they even made him acting-President.

Today the rest is history.

What about Cowbell? When they came to Nigeria, they made milk in a sachet, Peak was laughing at

them- they said Cowbell was milk for the poor- but they were right! 3-million poor people could afford

N10 a day for a sachet of milk. Oya, do the maths - 3million people buying milk at N10.00- that was

N30million every single day. In a month they grossed N900million (almost N1billion). Even Peak had to

make sachet milk in order to survive in the market.

So what have people told you? What have they said you cannot do, or you do not qualify for, or you do

not have experience for? They told Cowbell, they told Goodluck, they told MTN, but today the story has

changed.

I have a feeling something is changing for you today! They will change their strategies just to keep in

step with you. Don’t listen to what people are saying or what life is showing you… YES, YOU CAN !

Do have a Positive Day... Success is not about where you graduated from, but what graduates out of

you. Keep the spirit. There is a giant in you, sleeping because you have not woken him up. Don't be

discouraged by your qualification, family background, environment or even our non-performing govt, help

yourself. Stand-up and be beyond what you want 2 be!

God Bless You!!

START YOUR BUSINESS NOW !! ! ! ! ! ! !

Dear All,

I recall the write up below from a mail sent to me by an older friend who was a top management staff of a leading nigerian bank

and deem it fit to share wit u for your digestion.

Please try to create time to read through.

Nigeria educational system is tailored towards developing more capitalist slaves and not entrepreneurs (a Harvard Business

School professor, Professor Bower, told me in 2005 that working for someone is capitalist slaves or method of slavery).

Unlike Nigerian system, Harvard university MBA is real life experience and tailored towards creating entrepreneurs out of their

MBA students they also follow up their career development etc. It is a fantastic school. However, the issue here is not about MBA,

it is about how we can add more value to our profession by being an entrepreneur and thereby create more jobs rather than

more books. Nigeria needs to grow and it can only grow if value is created. We need to create more job rather than chasing

jobs.

For how long do we want to work for anyone if what we have in our mind is how to be a better employee, a good staff to our

employer or bride to a would be employer. It is okay if you are below 40, but if you above 40, you better get out of that job, fire

yourself or employer and start something now before it is too late. You need at least 5 years before your new business starts

getting it foot right (Pls. read CREATE YOUR OWN FUTURE, by

Bran Tracy ).

The money you are spending on MBA will start a good business for you and you will stop waking up early in morning to meet the

target set by your slave masters (i.e employer). Our problem that we always want to start with big capital. No! you can start with

at least N500,000 or less. I know you will spend more than N500,000 on the MBA programme. It may not be easy initially but at

the end of the day you will be better off. I am speaking from experience. SO QUIT THAT JOB AND START DOING SOMETHING

FOR YOUR SELF SO THAT YOU CAN BE A BETTER PERSON IN LIFE

I have no doubt in mind and am very sure that none of you earn up to 10% of your sales target and you spend 18hrs

representing 75% of your time and 85% of useful work age chasing protecting someone investment. An average person starts

working at age 25, works for 30yrs before retiring voluntarily at age55 or get fired at age 60. Nobody can fire you if you own your

own job.

For instance all the MD of banks that have put in 10years come july 2010 will have to leave their jobs as announced by the CBN,

though they all own majority shares in their banks and their money will be working for them, think of what will happen to them if

they are mere employees. There are many ex-bankers roaming the streets of Lagos now because they did not plan their exit and

their mind is tailored toward being a capitalist slave.

There is no big deal about MBA or additional degree after your 1st degree or master degree. I am also not saying that if you have

the means and time you can not pursue one. after all, I have MBA and 2 Masters apart from a degree in Economics and FCA and

am also doing an external Law program at university of London( a 3 yr. program but I can do it for maximum of 8yrs), mind you I

run my business. What I realise we need is executive education

programmes that will enhance our career not MBA after ACA. You will equally learn most of the things you learn in MBA schools in

the executive educational programmes. You will also have to be reading a lot of leadership, motivational, autograph and

biography of world leaders and businessmen. Please if you want to continue to be a slave this advise is not for you. If I knew

what i know now I would have fired my employers long ago before 2005 after spending 18 years as a SLAVE protecting their

investment

Let me share this with you quickly,

Mike Adenuga, Jim Ovia, Fola Adeola, Tayo Aderinokun, Akingbola, Aigboje Aig-imoukhuede( Fired GTB to buy Access bank),

Fidelis Ayebae, MD Fidson healthcare plc a multi billion company (left citi bank as an AGM with nothing to start up fidson, Fidelis

has HND in Civil Engineering) ,

Mrs Florence Seriki(MD Omatek Computer). Tunji Ogunwusi (MD prime waterview real estate developer sits on multi billion

company fired global bank to start tunji ogunwusi & co)

These people run their business, apart from Tayo and

Jim never had MBA or additional degree before they started their businesses.

They all fired there employers at a point in time. They all started their business between 25 and 35yrs at an average age of 32.

A boy studied Economics at Obafemi University Ife started fish

and poultry business in 2004 with a loan of N250,000. 00 from the family and never worked for anyone. By 2008 he had saved

N30million and currently building his own house. He has about 25 employees.

My friend who is chartered accountant, left banking in 2005 got a good offer from FBN but turn it down, banks are running after

him to give him money for his business. His business worth millions now, he started with N5million terminal benefit from the

bank. He runs a grudging business

A cousin of mine who is a chattered accountant worked for an audit firm for 5 years and found it difficult to pay his house rent

started own audit firm in 2004. HE has over 6 employees now, 2 cars and started building his own

house in Lekki

I started my business in 2005 at 39. I have make more than 10 times what I was getting as salary in the bank. In fact, what I

have made in the last 5 years is more than my salary in the banking for 18years added together. I have enough time for my

family and myself and leave a quality and balance life. You can do same it you make the right decision now!

This is a challenge!
